The Board
Anna Vagin
President
Anna joined the CMM Board as Artist Liaison in 2017, and was elected Board President in January 2023. A Bay Area native, Anna has a clinical practice in Larkspur, and lives in Fairfax with her husband, Bruce Heller. A life-long lover of live performances, she has been studying cello since her 20’s. Her recent musical explorations led her and Bruce (and cello Vagin!) to travel to Lubec, Maine, this summer for a week of playing at SummerKeys – a music camp for adult amateurs. Anna is passionate about the importance of keeping chamber music relevant and accessible to new generations of listeners.
Jane Rogers
Past President
Jane joined the CMM Board in 2019, bringing extensive nonprofit leadership experience. In July 2020, she assumed the role of President, guiding the organization through COVID-19 challenges, a rebrand from Mill Valley Chamber Music Society to Chamber Music Marin, and its 50th Anniversary celebration. Before this, Jane spent nearly 20 years as the Program Executive for the Environment at the San Francisco Foundation, following a distinguished career in urban planning and environmental policy. A lifelong music enthusiast, she joined the Marin Music Study Club in 2002 and began studying harpsichord and fortepiano with Yuko Tanaka in 2005—a pursuit she continues today.
Jeff Gordon
Jeff has been on the board for over 10 years because he loves music, enjoys working with the board, and strongly believes in Chamber Music Marin's mission to bring excellent music to our community. Music has been a major part of Jeff’s life, having played multiple instruments in his early life to being a music major at UC Berkeley prior to receiving his MBA at UCLA. Although banking later became his profession, music has remained a passion long after Jeff’s days of playing the trumpet in bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, brass quintets, and even less traditional venues like the circus and Beach Blanket Babylon. He has spent most of his life in Marin, the last 30 years here in Mill Valley with his wife Diane and his now grown children. His current interests include playing classical guitar, piano, and ukelele as well as biking and hiking.
Kathleen Doyle
Treasurer
Kathleen joined the Board in 2022 and serves as Treasurer. With a strong background in accounting and finance, she previously operated a CFO-level consulting business in Silicon Valley and currently manages her real estate investment firm. A lifelong music enthusiast, Kathleen very much enjoys live musical performances. When she isn’t listening to music, she can be found helping individuals and her local community through her Rotary Club, hiking the trails of Mt. Tam, or rafting on a beautiful river. Kathleen has lived in Marin County since 1993 and can’t imagine being anywhere else.
John Cutler
John joined the Board of Chamber Music Marin more than three decades ago, initially to help enlist support for our Outreach program in local schools. He is past president of the Board of Directors of the Mountain Play Association and of The Redwoods. He was deeply involved in the Mill Valley Community Center's development. A resident of Mill Valley for 60+ years, he is a retired lawyer.
Bill Horne
President Emeritus
Bill Horne is a dedicated musician and longtime President of Chamber Music Marin who discovered his passion for chamber music at the age of 48 despite an early background in piano. His immediate connection to the art form led him to perform with ensembles throughout the Bay Area and at summer festivals on college campuses. Over a distinguished tenure spanning more than a decade, Bill not only led the organization but also played a key role on the Program Committee, curating outstanding performances that capture the intimate spirit of chamber music. His commitment to the genre extends beyond Chamber Music Marin through his service on the boards of international and regional organizations such as ACMP, Chamber Musicians of Northern California, Intermusic SF, and the Humboldt State University Workshop. Today, Bill continues on the CMM Program Committee which selects performers for the series, while also venturing into music composition and exploring innovative ways to share his passion and preserve the vibrant tradition of chamber music.
Julia Lewis
Secretary
Julia joined the Board in 2019 and has served as Secretary and program coordinator. She is a Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology having retired after teaching for 30 years at San Francisco State University. She grew up in a musical household with both parents being professional violinists and having a string quartet; her brother is a violist with the Utah Symphony. Julia played the cello from age 8 and was a music major in college until she chose psychology as her career path. A resident of Mill Valley since 1987 she is proud to support the legacy and mission of CMM in bringing quality chamber music to Marin.
Carolyn Lowenthal
Carolyn Lowenthal is an avid chamber musician and a retired software engineer who plays a vital role in supporting online ticket sales for CMM. She is also involved on the boards of both the Chamber Musicians of Northern California and Soiree Musicale of Saratoga. Carolyn began her violin journey in fourth grade and continued to hone her skills through college, including participating in chamber music classes. Currently, she performs with several orchestras, including the College of Marin Symphony Orchestra, Mission Chamber Orchestra, and Saratoga Symphony, and seizes local performance opportunities. Carolyn also engages in chamber music workshops and enjoys playing in informal ensembles, showcasing her love for music in a variety of settings.
